The sony RX100 was a game changer in many respects. While it
was a large sensor camera, what it did was bring a large sensor into a compact
camera. When we reviewed the RX100, we fell in love with it almost immediately,
although we did fell it lacked a few essential features. Now with RX100 II, we
are seeing a more sensible camera system, something the RX100 should have been in
the first place. We were skeptical at first the specs on the camera are
identical to its predecessor but we wanted to see for ourselves before making
a decision.
The 1-inch, 20.2 Mega pixel Exmore (BSI) sensor coupled with
reasonably fast Carl Zesis 29-100 mm f/1.8-4.9 lens make this a formidable ally
when tackling low-light photography.
The large sensor means that you can bump the ISO all the way
up to 3200 and still not worry grain. Quite something coming from this tiny
creature. Sony has also finally added a much need hot shoe on the top.
What we are disappointed with is the fact that other than
providing a hot shoe, Sony doesn’t seem to have done much else. The camera
remains essentially the same and sony could have at least taken the trouble to
tweak the sensor or more than anything .
If you can look past that short Coming and the exorbitant
asking price, this is a great camera when it comes to performance. It could
have been just that little vit better though.
